The Los Angeles Lakers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles, California. The Lakers were founded in 1947, they were a purchase of a disbanded team, the Detroit Gems. The Lakers originally played in Minneapolis, Minnesota, calling themselves the Minneapolis Lakers in honor of the state's nickname, "Land of 10,000 Lakes". After struggling financially in the late 1950s they relocated to Los Angeles before the 1960-61 season. The Lakers play their home games at Staples Center an arena found in Los Angeles.The Lakers are one of the most successful teams in NBA history winning 16 NBA championships.

Wilton Norman “Wilt” Chamberlain



Born on August 21, 1936 7’1 Wilton Norman “Wilt” Chamberlain was an American professional basketball player. Wilt was drafted in 1959 to the Golden State Warriors, who moved to the Philadelphia 76ers, and finished playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. He played for the University of Kansas and also for the Harlem Globetrotters before playing in the NBA. During the time he played he played as a center and was widely considered one of the greatest and most dominant players in NBA history. He is the only player to score 100 points in a single NBA game or average more that 40-50 points in a season. He won seven scoring titles, nine field goal percentage, and eleven rebounding titles, and led the league in assists once. .Chamberlain is the only player in NBA history to average at least 30 points and 20 rebounds per game in a season, a feat he accomplished nine times.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

            
    
    Born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr. on April 16, 1947, Abdul-Jabbar is a retired American professional basketball player who played 20 seasons in the National Basketball Association. He played for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers as a center. Winning a record of being a six-time NBA Most Valuable Player award, 19-time NBA All-Star a 15-time All-NBA selection, and am 11-time NBA All-Defensive Team member. Throughout his career he has earned six NBA championships being voted twice as NBA Finals MVP. In 1996 he was honored as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History. He attended UCLA, where he played on three consecutive national championship basketball teams and was a record three-time MVP of the NCAA Tournament. Drafted in 1969 with the first overall pick, Alcindor spent six seasons in Milwaukee. Using his trademark “skyhook” shot, he established himself as one of the league's top scorers. After winning his first NBA championship in 1971, he adopted the Muslim name Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at age 24. In 1975, he was traded to the Lakers, with whom he played the last 14 seasons of his career and won five NBA championships. Abdul-Jabbar's contributions were a key component in the “Showtime” era of Lakers basketball. Over his 20-year NBA career his team succeeded in making the playoffs 18 times and past the 1st round in 14 of them; his team reached the NBA Finals 10 times. At the time of his retirement in 1989, Abdul-Jabbar was the NBA's all-time leader in points scored (38,387). He remains the all-time leading scorer in the NBA, and is ranked 3rd all-time in both rebounds and blocks. In 2007 ESPN voted him the greatest center of all time and in 2008 they named him the "greatest player in college basketball history”.
Earvin “Magic” Johnson
           

Born August 14, 1959 Earvin “Magic” Johnson Jr. is a retired American professional basketball player who played for the Los Angeles Lakers. He played as a point guard during the time he played for 13 seasons. After winning championships in high school and college, Johnson was selected first overall in the 1979 NBA draft by the Lakers. He won a championship and as NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award in his rookie season, and won four more championships with Lakers during the 1980s. After announcing that he had contracted HIV Johnson retired in 1991, but still returned in the 1992 All-Star game, winning the All-Star MVP Award. After protests from his fellow players, he retired again for four years, but returned in 1996, at age 36, to play 32 games for the Lakers before retiring for the third and final time.

Kobe Bryant


               
        Born on August 25, 1978 at the height of 6’6 Kobe Bryant is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has played his entire career for the Los Angeles Lakers. He was drafted to the NBA right out of high school in 1996 because his high performance of basketball in his high school years. He is a huge achievement in NBA history. He is a five time NBA champion in which two he got finals MVP. In 2008 he won the MVP award. He is a seventeen time NBA all-star with four NBA all-star MVP. He also is a two time NBA scoring champion and is the Los Angeles Lakers all-time leading scorer. He won three gold medals for the United States and just recently passed Michael Jordan as third place of all-time scorer. His career is not over and yet to accomplish more.
